The TechHOUNDS' entry into the 2009 FIRST Robotics Competition, Lunacy, has proven to be one of the team's most successful robots. It rapidly collects game pieces, then shoots and dumps (thus "shumps") the orbit balls into the trailers of other robots. Becoming a finalist at the Buckeye Regional, "Mr. Shumper" established its early dominance in a field of 59 competitors. At the Boilermaker Regional "Mr. Shumper" placed first out of a field of 35 robots.

An award-winning feature on this year?s robot is the traction control program. This program is critical on the slippery floors of Lunacy. The robot?s actual speed is compared to the wheel speed to determine how much the wheels are slipping. This information is then used to determine what the correct wheel speed should be and corrects it. A special boost program is enabled when extra pushing power is needed.
